Challenge

Science, math and engineering careers are dominated by men– and mostly because girls don't like to study the subjects in school. How can we engage them?

Approach

I looked at programs directed to young women and saw that most of them didn't look like much fun, and they certainly didn't look like they were for girls. I researched several online curriculums, other games popular with girls 9-13 and science and math websites that are successful with both boys and girls.

Solution

I created a new program for the YMCA that's active, interactive and girly. With a bright and cheery brand, Ping is a thought bubbling up – the sound of a new email in your inbox. It's all about ideas, activity and play and features bright colors and a game to keep the girls involved and interested in each new weekly challenge. I'd love to share more about this case study with you in person.
